Divine

Website
With Divine Free Edition, you can convert ANY Photoshop design to a WordPress theme. Divine was developed for those who know a bit from Photoshop and sites creation but don't want to get bored marking up a valid site on the basis of CMS manually. By the way, the site gets uploaded to the server via the built-in FTP-client.

For now we're planning three versions of Divine besides Free:

I suggest to create a sort of settings file associated to each to PSD file, which will be atomatically opened at the Divine startup. in order to not start from sratch but from previously saved options.
Official response:
This functionality's being developed at the moment, so it'll soon be included in Divine Elemente (formerly Divine Personal).

This is going to be a real time saver in creating WordPress templates. As a designer this will save hours of trying to figure out the code and seeing the visual elements before uploading is excellent.
Official response:
Thank you for these kind words.
Divine is ready to develop, improve and get even better for its users:)

When setting up a new design in WordPress I like to put in a special area usually at the top right under the header and logo, or on the right hand side (left of the navigation) a featured post area so my featured post show speratly from the rest of my post, i think this would be a good feature
Official response:
We’ve studied your issue and here’s what we figured out:
this is a special option absent in standard WordPress widgets. You’ll have to search for an off-site widget or make it by yourself. However, placing widgets in different layout areas will be possible in Divine Extended.

The layout editor should come with an assortment of skins. The dark interface on the preview will be hard for some of us to use. I find using dark interfaces tough on the eyes when you use them for long periods during development of a project. A lighter color or choose of colors would be better.
Official response:
Thank you for the suggestion, we'll get back to this idea in Divine Extended and PRO.

Hi,

Having a tiny problem getting Divine to launch. I thought the beta test software wasn't supposed to have limitations because I keep running into the damned size limit!

I've set the image size to be: w: 1500 and h: 1000. It shouldn't be coming up with a limit error, but it is.

Miles.
Official response:
Miles,

Please look through the limitation rules attentively again:

Layout size must not exceed 1000×2000px or be smaller than 750×1000px. This means the document width must not be less than 750 px and more than 1000 px, the height must be within 1000 px and 2000 px.

Dear users of Divine plugin,
During these few months since Ideastrunk has been launched we’ve exchanged by dozens suggestions, discussed bunches of questions, solved problems and stuck together. We give our thanks to each of you for every issue you raised. Today we’d like to raise one.

Some of you helped us with translating Divine software into different languages – thank you so much for your time and effort spent on this work. This time we’d like you to help us with WordPress installation process. Please let us explain: there’s an article at our site with the information how to install WordPress, here’s the link - www.divine-project.com/documentation/documentation-installing-wordpress . We ask you to see it through thoroughly one more time and tell us what it lacks.

WordPress download is a simple thing to do for any of you. However, when it comes to WordPress installation, we often run into difficulties and puzzles. Technical process of installing software that you are not acquainted with is irritating and boring. We’d like to eliminate any of these inconveniences and make an easy, understandable article about WordPress download.

Please follow the link with the information how to install WordPress and point out the moment that we should pay attention to. Maybe there’s something in WordPress download or WordPress installation that we omitted – please let us know. Maybe there’s something you disagree with. Please write in comments what we should add or correct in this article how to install WordPress.

Let’s keep on with the productive cooperation that we’ve successfully begun at Ideastrunk. Not only WordPress installation and WordPress download are important for us at this stage – there’s much more we want to work out with you in future. For now we want you to install WordPress successfully and then turn your Photoshop designs into beautiful WP themes.

For those of you who have already studied Divine tutorials and instructions, we’ll just remind that Divine Free edition has some limitations. However – let this not ruin your inspiration to build a WordPress theme.

First off, the layout size of the WordPress theme must be between 750х1000 px and 1000х2000 px. This limitation often puzzles our dearest users. Please let us explain more thoroughly: note that the width of the WordPress theme document must not be less than 750px and exceed 1000 px. Any size between these 750 and 1000 px is acceptable. The height of the document must be within 1000 px and 2000 px.

Parameters necessary to create WordPress theme

Another essential limitation for creating WordPress theme design is the default grid: 4 areas separate the layout (Header, Footer, Content, Sidebar).

Width | Height
Header Layout width | 350px
Footer Layout width | 200px
Sidebar 40% Layout width | Depends on the layout height
Content 60% Layout width | Depends on the layout width

Now, with these rules you’ll mark areas of all borders for your WordPress themes.

Page template markup for the WordPress theme design

After we dropped some light on the structure of template, we can start creating WordPress theme design. From this moment you only devote your time and effort to your personal Photoshop skills.

Another important thing: please remember that Sidebar and Content areas are stretchable in the process of designing future WordPress themes. This means you’re not advised to use complicated pictures for the background.

Template design in the process of WordPress theme design

Right after you’re done with the template, you’re going to add the design to main elements of the WordPress theme. You’ll find more information on the subject on the Elements page.

The elements you need to add to the Sidebar area are:
Sidebar caption
Text
Link
Search form
Text field
Search button
Content area needs the following elements to be added:
Post title
Post author
Post date
Post text
Number of comments
Comments link
Read more
Comment response
Comment author
Comment text
Comment date
Previous comments link
Next comments link

You can add up to 5 more elements to the Header and Footer areas when you create WordPress themes (the number of elements is also a part of the Free version limitations). These 5 elements might be text layers as well as images.

Exporting ready layout of the WordPress theme design

Theme publication is the last thing to do after you create your WordPress theme design. You’ll find more information about theme export on the Tutorials pages.

Please note: In the process of designing WordPress themes all images are displayed in GIF format. This is why we do not recommend you using Blending effects. However – it’s not forbidden.
